Volvo 200 » PCV Flame Trap 1981-1987
 Volvo uses a small in-line filter to manage positive crankcase ventilation on their 4 cylinder engines. The ventilation system incorporates a small flame trap filter (PCV) to protect against possible crankcase explosions due to a backfire. This filter is overlooked in most workshop manuals and without periodic maintenance it will plug up with oil deposits and cause excessive crankcase pressure, which in turn cause significant oil leaks all over the engine. An additional contributor to this problem is the fact that on these models, the filter and filter holder are buried below the intake manifold and pretty tough to access. We recommend checking the flame trap condition at every oil change.

Good stuff, flame trap can be changed in less than 5 minutes after an oil change.

Ordered this kit, and it is just what the mechanic ordered! Since My fat hands did not fit under the manifolds It was a little tougher than "normal" to replace. Now, i can check it easily!! Money Well Spent!!

I have owned my 1985 Volvo 245 since new. I had for years trusted the Dealership to do all the maintenance that was required. To my sad surprise, I found that at about 70,000 miles, the flame trap and oil seperator had not been touched, and I had developed several minor oil leaks. I reluctantly decided to tackle it myself, learning in the process why it had not been touched. This is a real bear of a job. I forced myself to clean and service the system at each oil change thereafter. This normally added about one hour to what would otherwise be a simple chore. I ordered the relocation kit from IPD, and it took about as long to install as it normally took to service the original. Now, all I have to do is to ensure that the vacuum source port is clean (with a straightened paper clip) and simply remove one hose that is within easy reach, as it sits atop the intake manifold (instead of being buried beneath the manifold and throttle body), pop the flame arrestor out and clean it, give the tube a shot of solvent prior to changing the engine oil, and I'm done. Now the service of the flame trap takes all of 5 minutes. Great Item. I can't give it high enough marks.
