Hi, once in 1988, I bought an IPD front sway bar from a nearby classic Volvo parts dealer and enjoyed it very much from day 1.

At first, the car still had it's standard coil springs and thus height. At that time there was an issue with the lower wishbones that started to tear along where the swaybar end link is attached. Presumably because of the car standing on uneven roads or such (left far in, right far out and vice versa). I reinforced them and added lower coil springs to the car. Since then it drove like on rails and actually forces you to pick a suitable tire to match.

The first confrontation was when first installed. Took the car around the block a couple of times to listen for noise and make sure things would settle. Turning in our driveway as usual, I hit my head on the door pillar next to me because the car didn't act like a boat anymore. Ouch...as if the car was telling me off for tempering with it's suspension..!

Now, some 22 years later, I still own that car, which is in a sorry state after driving it daily for about 13 years. Recently I bought a "new one" with some 40000mls on the clock. I will be switching all parts from the old to the new car adding Bilsteins all round and also ventilated discs with matching braking material.

Soon standing on Volvo V70 steel rims with 205/60-16, will be enough upgrading for now. Rust preventing in these parts will be a greater concern for the future.

The improvement in handling on the 140 is noteworthy; even the feel of
routine driving around town is noticeably improved, and predictability in
emergency maneuvers is vastly, vastly better. (I swear I once would've
hit a deer or worse if not for these sway bars; the car handled smoothly
and predictably doing stuff that would have made the original 140 go
unstable in a big way.) I've had them more than a decade and I'm still
glad I bought 'em. Cheap at twice the price. Do not drive a 140 without
these.

A great product once it's installed. The inner "ears" on the front bar hit the upper A frames on my 1974 142GL. I removed about a half inch of material from each end with a hack saw, using the bushing as a guide.

ipd customer service response: We did have an issue with a few bars that went out where before we caught it. The forge on the end of the bars was squashed too thin resulting in the end of the bar being wider than our specification. While this does not affect the function or strength of the bar, it does cause some clearance issues on some cars. This forging issue has been resolved.
