Heater Control Valve Your heater control valve controls the temperature of the heater. Failure of this component is pretty common - typical symptoms include either not getting any heat or getting only 'maximum' heat regardless of what setting you select. Less common (but more irritating) failure can flood the interior with coolant. The valve isn't repairable and the best solution is replacement.
