1996-1998 850 & S70/V70 Stage III Performance Kits
Sunday, January 01, 2006
During the fall of 2005, the staff at ipd noticed that 1994-1998 Volvo 850 & S70/V70 T5 models were becoming quite popular with the Volvo performance crowd. These models can be purchased for a reasonable price and have a lot of performance potential that can be easily and economically tapped.
Ken Pruett (who heads up ipd's ECU programming department) convinced us to develop a Stage III package using his 1998 V70 T5 5 speed. Ken, several members of our staff and a few of our customers worked hard on the project through the winter. They developed an outstanding range of products that produce great bang for the buck without overstressing the stock engine or drive train.

I would love to have the described kind of upgrades, but I feel that those upgrades need to be in tune with other linked parts? What I mean is: if you add big brakes, don’t you need a more powerful brake master cylinder. If you change the manifold and the exhaust pipe for better airflow ones, doesn’t the computer needs to be re-configured? When upgrades are installed, is there a sequent of parts to be installed so there is no impact? On my C70 I started with the air intake, next week will be the springs and shocks. I would like to install new wheels and tires but in order to do that I need to know first about the big brakes issue. Based on the above-mentioned concerns, is there anything you can tell me about upgrades in the car and what to look for?

I have updated my front brake system on my (2002) V-70 X/C with SS braided lines and EBC slotted/drilled Rotors. I noticed a lot shorter braking distance and my old brake "surge" is gone due to the new Rotors and Pads as is the mushy pedal feel. I am now ready to upgrade the rear brakes, Exhaust and ECU. Is there a better boost control available? SUMMIT RACING has a variable boost pressure control for Turbocharged engines, but I wondered if you folks know of a better way to get more boost other than the new turbo ? Also, is there a suspension kit to allow me greater Ground Clearance? Thanks! E.G.
